- An Arena Driving Trial (ADT) is like a "reduced" CDE (Combined Driving Event) with three phases: Dressage, Cones, and Hazards. The difference is that all three phases are shortened and are held in the same arena -- there is no distance portion to the marathon. It is also a casual event, with no turnout or presentation scores.
-
- Although this is not an ADS-rated show, the competition will held according to the ADT rules as set forth in Appendix A of the CDE pages (yellow) of the ADS rule book.
- The same carriage/vehicle must be used for all three phases
- Dress is casual "marathon" for all three phases (safety helmet required in all phases)
- Gloves and whip are required. Aprons are optional. Shorts are acceptable, due to expected heat.
- No cantering in any phase for training level - breaks of pace will be penalized. Cantering permitted in prelim level only if your carriage has a backstep for the navigator. A 2-wheeled vehicle with side-to-side seating must trot only.
- Grooms/navigators REQUIRED in hazard phase for any 4-wheeled vehicle with a 5th-wheel turntable, and for multiples in all phases. Grooms/navigators also required for juniors in all phases.
- Grooms/navigators may ride on more than one vehicle. Drivers may compete on more than one turnout (as either a driver or navigator), only if (1) the second entry drives with no score (HC), and (2) if there is space available for a second driver turnout.
