An Arena Driving Trial (ADT) is like a "reduced" CDE (Combined Driving Event) with three phases:  Dressage, Cones, and Hazards. The difference is that all three phases are shortened and are held in the same arena -- there is no distance portion to the marathon. It is also a casual event, with no turnout or presentation scores.

Although this is not an ADS-rated show, the competition will held according to the ADT rules as set forth in the draft for the ADS rule book.
  • The same carriage/vehicle must be used for all three phases
  • Dress is casual "marathon" for all three phases (safety helmet required)
  • Grooms/navigators may ride on more than one vehicle. Grooms/navigators REQUIRED for ponies and horses (not VSEs) in hazard phase, and for multiples in all phases. Grooms/navigators also required for juniors in all phases.
Phase 1: Dressage: Arena is 30x55 m. Note: ADT dressage tests are different from ADS dressage tests! Training level may use a caller. Download forms below (you need Adobe Acrobat Reader). Judge: Bob Giles

Requesting volunteers to perform their dressage test on Saturday evening.

Phase 2: Cones: 12 gates and a "U" with 50 cm clearance Training, 40 cm clearance Prelim. Clearances are for the largest vehicle in that class and are not adjusted for individual competitors within each class. Time penalties for over time allowed and course penalties for balls down will be assessed as in CDEs (0.2 penalties per second over allowed time and 5 penalties for each knockdown).

Phase 3: Hazards: 2 hazards each run once forwards and once backwards; total 4 hazards timed. Training does gates A, B, C for Hazards #1 and #2 and rests, then C, B, A for H#1 and H#2.  Prelim does gates A, B, C, D, E for Hazards #1 and #2 and rests, then E, D, C, B, A for H#1 and H#2. Time and course penalties will be assessed.

Classes: Training VSE, Training Pony, Training Horse, Prelim VSE, Prelim Pony, Prelim Horse, Prelim Multiples (tandem, pair, etc.). Organizer reserves the right to combine or split classes if entries warrant.
